Re: [Avid-L2] AVID APPMAN TUTORIAL

I tubo trust App Msn is a necessary evil for subscription model, it might not be the case for most of Lers, but it's something that needs to be there running if you have any type of subscription AFAIK.

I personally don't have anything against it, but I agree that sometimes it helps to generate more confusion regarding licensing issues.

I don't really understand the point of App Man, to be honest.   If it's convenience, I'm not sure it's doing the job, if a tutorial is needed.   Many people just give up getting it to work right and go to the download center.  In some cases, it adversely affects system stability.  Having it constantly run in the background is crazy and just asking for trouble.  Look at your console and see the constant repeated messages and network activity.   I know it's not using a great deal of processor cycles or system resources, but why throw another variable into the mix of things that could possibly go wrong, with no discernible benefit?  If the reason is licensing, then I am not sure I get that either, since we were able to license Avid software only without a dongle before.  Maybe it's just my perception, but  I've seen more weird licensing issues reported here now than pre-App Man.

I sort of get why Adobe would want an Application Manager.  With the Creative Cloud Suite, you have a slew of programs to keep updated. With Avid, it's Media Composer and a few plugins only on most people's systems, with a smaller subset running ProTools, as well.

At the very least, there should be an option to not have it run at launch or have it run for a short time, then quit.

Agreed - but when you need a video tutorial to use an automated system something isn't right.

Nice one. Personally, I'm finding a lot of problems with App Manager that appear to be related to my company's firewall policies. Not everything is always Avid's fault....
