[Avid-L2] Re: Remote video collaboration w/ client

I would suggest you first think about your workflow.  Having your client fooling around with your edit system remotely will be a major headache for you when it doesn't connect correctly, he doesn't know what he's doing, and god forbid, he starts cutting the sequence you were working on.  Basically, you will be doing more AE/IT work than editing and it just doesn't seem to be efficient for both of you.  If he's basically a story producer, he doesn't need to see your stuff in "real time", but in "near real time" so that you can both work independently doing your jobs.   Having done several remote jobs, here's what I would suggest.  1)  You both have a hard drive with identical media and (at least initially), identical bins.  2)  Set up a Dropbox or Box account (if you don't already have one.  3) While he's screening footage, he's also building a stringout sequence for you of suggested shots, etc.   4) You are starting to cut your scenes.  5) end of the day (lets say) you both post your sequences on to Dropbox, and import/link as necessary.  6) He can give notes via marker/locator and send his "noted" sequence back to you and vice versa.  7) In the event you are adding scratch vo, music... be sure to keep HIS drive up to date, post additional material on Dropbox (new video material likely will need to be physically shipped or sent to you via FTP.)  Rinse and repeat.
