I rarely make it to the theater these days but when I do I attempt to shut off my editor brain and just enjoy the presentation. I did see Star Wars Xmas Eve in 3D and while I hadn't planned on 3D it just worked out that way. I found the preview trailers a bit 3D over the top, perhaps that's just the nature of a trailer, but fortunately once Star Wars began after a few minutes I wasn't concentrating on the 3D. Even with my progressive lens regular glasses for the most part I didn't feel any eye strain past the initial acclimation period.
I'm curious how others judge editing. I'm a bit of the old school about seamless editing but in this day and age that is often not the case. For me generically the editing I don't notice is the best. For most of my TV editing career there has been a focus on form over content in my realm of TV but now I just want it to flow without the need of flashy edits. Of course an occasional Fish Wipe is always a pleasant surprise. Did any of the movies in your article have a fish wipe? If so then that would be my first choice fins down. ;-)
