Good catch and solution. Which folder exactly did you replace from your laptop?
It was mentioned to not have QT 7 in the applications folder. The download link I found for QT 7 specifically states it will install QT 7 in the utilities folder so I would think you would have to go out of your way to move it into the applications folder and create a conflict. Perhaps that is possible and something I'll keep in mind in the future.

Thanks for all the suggestions. I did run DW as that is always my first course. But what solved the problem was replacing my two QT folders with the QT folders from my Laptop. I keep the same system specs on laptop and everything worked there. So I took the QT folders from the user library and system library and used these to replace the folders in my MacPro. And it worked! QT 7 seems to work now and Streamclip will work as well. So is it possible to have a corrupt codec?

Hi Lou,You want to install QT 7 inside the Utility Folder, since QT X is already installed inside the Application folder, and they don't like to be installed the same folder. That is why you have a conflict. You may want to try repair the OS Hard Drive with Disk Warrior, but if this does not help, Philip reply to clean install the OS Hard Drive will solve the problem.Ofer RavehAvid ACSR Elite, DSOn Monday, November 16, 2015 6:34 PM, "Lou Wirth loutv@... Not that I know of as I have not installed anything in some time. But here is something new. I tried again, for the 4th time to download QT7 and install. Now during installation I makes my boot drive inaccessible with the yellow icon saying "QT can't be installed on this disk This version can't be installed because QuickTime X is already present. Please use software update to insatll the appropriate version of qT for you mac"What is QTX, the other player I have on here? They have always lived together in harmony no? What a cluster___!Lou

DQSWell for all you QT7 experts out there, what could cause QT7 to not open. I've reinstalled three times. It won't open a movie using any method. When I double click the icon it just crashes. The result of this is…..I can't export anything from Avid. Because as soon as I select export, i have to go to settings and the whole system spins and stops responding. Tried with various user settings. MC opens fine. Reinstalled. Up to date v .3.1.xx. The other odd result is MPEG Streamclip, a usual tank in the software world, won't allow an mp4 to play and won't accept any QTs for compression. I can open the app, but not do anything with it. So I am lost without a working QT. Not sure how to proceed. Is there even an apple support route for this?Lou

I had odd behavior with my user setting hanging my home system. Avid would boot but hang when loading my usual user settings. I could open using other users so I figured my normal ones got corrupt. I reinstalled my user settings from a flash drive another startup drive and finally from a back up of my startup drives but no go. I reinstalled Avid and still no go. I worked with a new user to do my simple fixes and then as I was shutting down I figured I should now fix my new user and out of the blue my standard settings started working. I have no clue why the reinstalled didn't work then after working for an hour with the other user setting mine started to work again. I am starting to believe SSDs might get squirrely in very strange ways that are intermittent. Gets worse. Opened composer and now I can't export any sequences. When the Export as window comes up, when i click options it just spins forever, have to force quit. WTF!I reinstalled Avid codecs as well. So essentially, any movies with Avid codec crash QT. Streamclip suddenly won't work at all under any circumstances, and I can open MC but not export any sequences.LouI went to other movies than the ones I started with today, and I can open animation codec and apple pro res but not any avid codec movies. And stream clip won't open anything. But MC still works.

I don't know what that would prove other than the .mov files are valid to some degree. If you get info on the .movs does it say open with QT 7? I changed the behavior on my macs to open .movs from the default of QT X to QT 7. I'm wondering if that system characteristic could have been whacked so it's not even trying to use QT Pro to open the .mov. Does right clicking and choosing open with and pointing to QT Pro 7 make any difference?John Moore Barking Trout Productions Studio City, CA bigfish@...

This is crazy now. I went to the link and reinstalled QT7. repaired permissions, reboot. It boots up with QT7 open. So I check and it has the reg number. I try and open a movie and it quits. No movies will open. Its way more serious than I thought. If a simple reinstall can't help. Going into standard disk repair mode now but if any other ideas come along, let me know. Im on 10.8.5. I do have the Mavericks installer here so maybe I should try that. Its so weird that it came out of nowhere. No new installs.Lou

I seem to recall when I installed FCS it automatically upgraded QT to QT Pro. IIRC I installed FCS before installing legacy QT 7 and when I installed QT 7 it already knew to be the Pro version with exports. Perhaps reinstalling will still link to the existing license for QT Pro as it seems they are kept in to different areas from my past experience.John Moore Barking Trout Productions Studio City, CA bigfish@...

But today, QT ref won't play. QT just sees black. never happened before. Nothing new installed. Today is just the day. Try to do a video mix down (1 hr seq with tc burn) and try again. Same thing. Just black. So I export same as source. But it crashed stream clip (never crashes) and Encoder wont recognize it. (I use Encoder everyday with my same as source exports.)
What has happened over the weekend to completely turn the export process into a nightmare? Now having to make a export from Avid to small viewing movie so that should take about 10 hours.
go figure.
