The option to playback 16x9 footage on a 4x3 display should be a setting on your DVD player. Look for an aspect ratio setting on your DVD.

Not in front of a system now, but play with the settings in the Geometry tab. Letter boxing should be one of the options in the pull down menu there.

I have to make a DVD from a 1080P ProRes 422, 23.98 fps to screen on a projector system that only outputs 4x3 so I need a letterbox 4x3 DVD. I keep getting 16x9 with the letterbox stretched.
I searched for a tutorial to get the proper settings on Compressor 4.0.7 but have had no success.
Larry Jordan has one but it's really old and assumes I am using DVD Studio Pro.
Anybody have any suggestions? Or can give me the settings.
Thanks.
