Thanks everybody for the help. I do want it baked into the DVD because I've had a bad experience with another projectionist who refused to take direction and totally screwed up a theatrical screening. I told him the audio was a stereo mix and he insisted that on playing it back in surround sound.
This time I'm not taking any chances.
Based on John Pale's suggestions, I figured out the settings in Compressor by trial and error. I checked the Letterbox option in FILTERS and selected "Letterbox area of source" in GEOMETRY>SOURCE INSET (CROPPING) and 4x3 1.33:1 in GEOMETRY> OUTPUT IMAGE INSET (PADDING).
Thanks John Beck for the link to InfoEdit.com. And George for the DVD Player settings help. After all these years of watching DVDs I should have thought to check the player settings.
DUH!!! I attribute it to old age.
Thanks again.
Tony
