There is no logic here. This is why it needs to be fixed.

To me that means Avid is really thinking SD is 496 high and displaying that many lines thereby stretching it to fit the raster. Is the image showing on the computer monitor the only thing vertically stretched? Is the SD SDI output correct. That would point to just the computer display being off and not the actual signal out of the I/o box.

OK - I am obviously giving away my film, rather than video background here. These extra lines are part of the (old?) VBI or VTI and can be used for VITC and CC text.
