[Avid-L2] [slightly commercial] For those of you with an offline / online workflow

Some time ago i've developed a nice workflow for large amounts of footage.
(Did this for a big posthouse that wants to stay anonymous.)

The idea is to keep your sourcefiles on offline / nearline storage, and work
with transcoded low datarate files during offline.
For online, my system finds back the clips and copies them to another
location for relink in Avid.

The beaty is that is not only is able to find back the footage, but can also
do a partial restore.
(Meaning, only copy the files that are used, thus saving huge on copy time
and storage need.)
And yes, it is smart enough to copy / re-create all needed files to create a
valid disk image for Avid to AMA in.

So the workflow is to AMA link your footage, transcode to your fast /
expensive storage, keep footage on cheap storage,
offline, restore only used footage and conform.

If you want to toy with it / need more info, drop my a line offlist.
