I suggest:
Stick an external drive on your computer and Consolidate the project onto that drive. If you need more space than will fit onto a single drive, break the Project's Sequences into two (or more as needed) parts and Consolidate to more than one external drive in order. Then copy the Project Folder to the same drive or drives. Dismount and put away the external drive(s).
To later use the archived Project, delete the 'dot mdv' and 'dot pmr' files from the external drive(s). Copy the Project Folder to your 'Avid Projects' Folder and start up your Avid. Allow the database to recreate those two removed files. Consolidate the Project Sequence(s) onto another (possibly faster) set of drives attached to your computer. If you have more than one drive to restore, Consolidate each of them in succession until all of the Project is restored.
Obviously, this is easier if the Project you have to archive can be contained on one external archive drive.
