Re: [Avid-L2] problems transcoding GH4 4K footage

The i7 processor in the older Mac has H264 Encoding/decoding acceleration not present on the Westmere Xeon series processors.  Not sure Avid actually makes any use of it.

No - older Mac is running 7.0.4, newer one on 8.4.

So could be a hardware issue, could be software.  Not worth the time to nail it down now that I have something working.

Are the two systems the same Avid Version?  I don't remember if that was the case.  If they are do you have any reason why your older but more powerful mac doesn't work correctly?

I'm glad to report that I am able to transcode this 4K GH4 material successfully by switching to the iMac (specs below), running MC 8.4.   Imac has 24 GB RAM, running OS 10.9.4.

I have an 27" 3.5GHz quad-core i7 iMac, and could load it with MC 8.x.  That would certainly be a newer setup, but apart from it's video card it benchmarks lower than the Westmere, and it has less RAM.
