Re: [Avid-L2] Re: Downgrade From OS X 1010.4 to 10.10.3

Hi, Tony,

My solution turned out to be decidedly low-tech, and only a Band-Aid over wound that remains to be healed. After Apple declared that downgrading back to 10.10.3 was essentially impossible (not that I believe them), and after Avid said they had no timetable on qualifying both 10.10.4 and/or the 5K iMac, I decided to try something g stupid;

Since I am also using a 27" LED Cinema Display as a second monitor, I simply rearranged the monitors, putting the LED Cinema display on the right, and the 5K iMac on the left. Because of how I like to arrange my Composer windows, this means that my Source/Record and Timeline windows now reside on the right monitor (the 27" LED Cinema Display), while everything else (bins, Mix Tool, etc.) is all on the left (on the 5K iMac.

Bottom line, I get the performance of the new iMac without the nightmare of the Source/Record scaling horror that occurs when Source/Record is on the 5K iMac. This ultimately suggests that my problems are less about 10.10.4 exactly, but instead are related to the scaling of the software/graphics card/MC on the Retina screen iMac.

I love the display on the 5K iMac. And the system performance is terrific. But for me anyway, the images in the Source/Record windows simply do not play nice with the 5K iMac. I have every hope and confidence that some day Avid will address this, but for now, my solution was simply to rearrange my monitors. Stupid, I know, but at least I'm back in business. Now we just need Avid to get on with theirs.

David,

I'm finally getting around to setting up the 5K iMac for Avid  Symphony so now I think I'm going to wind up having to go from 10.10.4 back to 10.10.3.  Stupidly I upgraded the OS to 10.10.4 a month or so ago without checking to see if Avid had blessed it.

I downloaded the combo file but before I try to install it I thought I might ask you how it went.

Any gotchas?

Thanks
Tony Breuer
