Re: [Avid-L2] Harry Potter and the Unwritten Epic of Tomorrow (aka, AMA XdcamEX trouble)

Catalyst Browse is free, with an activation. Catalyst Prepare is more full featured and does cost money. There is also some sort of Catalyst editing app.

I think you'll need Catalyst if you want to work with Sony XAVC footage, particularly larger than HD. Content Browser probably won't be developed further

I pretty much open anything i want a quick look at in scratch play or if i need to look at a folder of things I use resolve. Haven't found anything those two wont open and both are free. Both also have the advantage of being very easy to apply a LUT...

You are correct in that Catalyst has replaced Content Browser, but Catalyst is a paid app where Content Browser (the version I linked to earlier) is still available and free. Catalyst seems to support more Sony shooting formats, so it may be worth buying a copy at some point, but I haven't needed it yet, and Content Browser has fit the bill for me (and the OP's issue).

Is the Catalyst app just a more featured version of the Content Browser or is it's functionality different.  From what I've been reading it sounded to me like Catalyst had replaced Content Browser but perhaps I've misunderstood?

Sony's free app to view XDCAM content and rewrap to MOV if desired. Can also add/change metadata and notes there too. Generally intended for producers but it's a handy editor's tool as well.

Mark,
Sounds like an option, but, eeeh, what's 'content browser' ?

Often I'll open problematic XDCAM mounts in Content Browser. This generally fixes whatever is wrong or missing from the folder structure, and then I can AMA freely in MC.

That's the one and only Google result I get when i'm searching for:

ama assertion failed: baafprocessorOK

Trying to AMA link to a XDcamEX folder, brought on a stick.
As always, debugger results in a crash, nothing i can do.
(AMA linking / importing the Mp4's does not work either.)
Besides transcoding outside Avid, what can i do?
