[Avid-L2] Restarting Isis 101

I just watched our AE restart the Isis after we were having issues.  He was taught to hit the power on the UPS feeding the Isis, which is an APC unit.  He was told to hold down the power button on the UPS for 20 seconds to shut it down.  WTF that can't be the proper way to restart an Isis.  That's shutting off the UPS feeding the Isis right.  Is there some potential smart ups rigging that shutting down the UPS powering the Isis would tell the Isis to elegantly shut down?  This makes no sense.

How is this different from pulling the power cord off the Isis?  I'm not much on Avid storage proper procedure but I figure you go to the Isis terminal and shut things down there like the file system etc... like you would a Unity.  I don't see how I'm wrong in my concern here but the AE swears the outside engineer told him to do it this way.  Then when the Isis boots enter the proper passwords.

I'll be amazed if yanking the power to the Isis is an acceptable method here.
