[Avid-L2] Relinking AMA media in Avid 8.3.1?

I've finished my monster transcode and I did some testing of relinking the subsequent clips.  As per suggestions of some of the lead AEs I've worked with after transcoding the F-55 footage that was ama linked using the new Sony 3.4 ama plugin to DNX-175 i deleted the .new clips that were linked to the new DNX-175 and I relinked the original ama clips to the DNX-175 media.  Everything worked but then I was trying to link the clips back to the original raw files.  The standard of highlighting the clips and relinking pointing to the drive that had the raw media did nothing.  What did work was opening another bin and right click and choosing ama link and pointing to the top folder that I had chosen for the original clips before transcoding.  My ama preference is to create a bin with the name of the folder and I still had the original clips bin open.  When I hit link ama in the new bin then all the clips in the original bin began to relink to the ama'd raw media.  No new clips were created and now everything was back to ama links to the raw material.

I played around some more relinking to the DNX-175 media and then trying unlink and relink in the traditional point to the media drive.  That worked but then I tried unlinking and doing a relink based not on Tape Name and Source File ID but on Tape Name and Source File Name to the ama drive.  Again nothing but after that some of the clips would not relink to the DNX-175.  I then went back to the empty bin and did an ama link and all the clips relinked to the ama'd raw media.  After that I was then able to relink all the clips to the DNX-175 media.

So I seem to have a process that works but there still seems to be potential hiccups.  All this media is going to Avid 6.5.41 systems and they will take my DNX-175 media and transcode to DNX-36 and then multigroup everything.  We have no plans to go back to the Raw media but I'm wondering if after the offline through the Avid 6.5.4 process will the sequence still contain the necessary meta data to allow for a relink to the Raw on my 8.3.1 system.  Hmmmmmm.  Is it just me or is there still some "Cat Herding" aspects of the ama offline to online process?

I did see the transcode only ama'd media button which I assume would allow loading up one ama source drive at a time and trancoding to target resolution for online without the worry of multiple transcoding of media that is already been transcoded.
