[Avid-L2] Re: Error, "A required hardware download was not performed" on launching Avid 6.5.4 and 6.5.6 after Virgin Install?

Here is something from Creative Cow:

Matthew FriedmanMC with DX won't boot off an SSD on 12 Core Mac Pro
by Matthew Friedman on Oct 22, 2012 at 4:16:49 pm

Title just about says it. If I boot my machine off an SSD, Avid MC fails to launch, specifically at the point where it tries to initialize the DX box. It returns an error message "A hardware download could not be completed," and exits to the finder when you click ok.

The same system boots fine if I unplug the DX box and launch MC in software only mode.
If I reboot the system off an internal SATA drive, again, everything works fine, with or without the DX attached.

I've tried uninstalling and re-installing MC, and the System OS as well. The problem is there with both 10.7 and 10.8. I've even tried two brands of SSD's. Both have the same issue.

I've heard reports of people successfully running MC off SSD Mac Pro's with fewer cores, but I haven't been able to find a single 12 core system that can confirm they are able to boot off an SSD and run MC with a DX box attached. Anyone?

Turn out that it appears the issue is related to the SSD which is in Bay 1 of the computer.  Installing 10.7.5 to a spinning HD will work with Avid but same OS and Avid installed on the SSD give the "A required hardware download was not performed" error.  Our tech found some mention of SSD related issues in an Avid forum and read that upgrading to 10.8 has alleviated SSD issues for others so we are going to try that.

At work they got my bay a refurbed 2010 macpro OS 10.7.5.  This is a SNDX system that has been running on OS 10.6.8 with 5.5.5 and a test run of 6.5.4.  This is a new refurbed/upgraded to 12 core computer.  It came with 10.7.5 installed.

I had previously downloaded 6.5.4.4 and 6.6.4.6 installs.  I installed the 6.5.4.6 and it updated the firmware on the Nitris DX and asked for a shutdown like usual.  Upon a complete pull the plug shut down when launching Avid I get the "A required hardware download was not performed" error.  After seeing this we double checked the network and found the wifi was on and seemed to be preventing a network connection with safari.  Shutting off wifi and Safari and worked.

I then uninstalled Avid and reinstalled but still got the error message.  I back reved to 6.5.4 but still get the error.  If I boot to my old systems startup drive that had 6.5.4 it works.  I did find that the SSD hard drive on the new computer had only read access for everyone so I switched that to read/write but still no joy.   I went back to 6.5.4.6 install and again it reprogrammed the fpgas but still no joy.

We are going to reinstall the OS to see if that helps.  Our tech saw some posts of cloned SSD drives having issues so we are going to install the OS from scratch from the techs installer drive.  Hopefully this will help.

Given my old startup drive works what's up with this new virgin install on a 10.7.5 SSD?
