[Avid-L2] Media Composer 8.3.1 Pan and Zoom plus Effects functionality?

I did a list search for 8.3 and pan and zoom and didn't come up with anything related to my issue.  I have an offline sequence that I believe was offlined on Avid 7, I've got an email into the offline editor to confirm this.  In the mean time I see the pan and zoom effect in the timeline but when I import the image the move seems to be missing.  I remember going form ver. 5.5 to Ver 6 there were compatibility issue due to the lack of a 64 bit quicktime engine for windows.  Is there now some more compatibility issue with pan and zoom and earlier versions of Avid?

Second observation is I can't go into a paint effect and use "cmd+A" to select all the objects in the paint effect.  To work on a paint effect from offline I usually shrink the effect window so I can see outside the raster.  Then I tap in select mode outside the raster.  Once I've done that I can hit "cmd+A" and all the objects in the paint effect will be selected.  I can then us the "A" and "S" keys to toggle between the selected objects one at a time.  I can't seem to make this work in 8.3.1.  The only way I can select the objects is to drag across the entire screen.  This is a pain because I may bump one of the object in the process and even after selecting the objects  this way the "A" and "S" don't seem to toggle between the selected object.  This a real pain when they drew a box around the entire frame and then an oval erase inside the raster.  If the bigger box is the top object I can't find a way to select the smaller underneath oval without moving the big box out of the way.  With multi keyframed effects this is really unworkable.  Is there a new approach in 8.3.1?  I feel crippled by this interface change.  What am I missing here?
