[Avid-L2] Installing Avid Symphony Ver. 6.5.4 or 6.5.6 Causes Avid errors on install OS 10.6.8?

I had a defective startup drive at work that I was seemingly able to carbon copy clone both partitions of the startup drive to a new drive and they both work on my work system.  Avid boots and runs etc...  Then I wanted to upgrade to Ver. 6.5.x.  I choose the latest versions 6.5.6 and 6.5.4 and tried to upgrade my Avid 5.5.5 startup drive.  At near the end of the install I got an error during the "moving items around" section.  This happened twice and I tried to run uninstall but it saw nothing to uninstall.  I had uninstalled 5.5 first.  After this error I restarted ran uninstall and then reinstalled Avid 5.5.5 but now whenever I try to start Avid I get a main thread bus error right out of the gate.

I tried the same on the recovered Avid 6.0.1.1 drive.  This time I upgraded up to 6.0.5.1 first and that was successful but then when I went to 6.5.4 upgrade the same thing happened.  I'm running 6.5.3 on my MBP laptop with OS 10.6.8.  It seems like somewhere after 6.5.3 perhaps there is no longer compatibility with with 10.6.8.  I know this is not qualified but sure sucks that the install munches something that won't allow a back rev.  Curious if others have run into this.
