why mixer?
I have several analog audio sources in my room: the computer sound output, an AJA T-Tap for Avid, Premiere, andso on, my laptop computer sound output, a BluRay set top box, etc.
I sometimes do music or SFX search on the laptop so I can easily play a choice mixed against sound and picture from the NLE on the workstation.
Also, I occasionally have students bring in their laptops to show me a project and so I have a separate cable for them to plug right into another input on the mixer.
It is worth it to me to not have to unplug/rearrange/futz with audio cables to accommodate these sources. The Soundcraft EPM8 referenced below is the right tool for the job.
Or maybe it's the years of working in sound that makes it hard for me to let go of the mixer in the edit bay - maybe it's my "woobie".

These things take up less space and are more suited for the job. I removed mixers from all edit rooms here and replaced with these, and everyone is happy. On Tue, Jun 16, 2015 at 5:15 PM, Mark Santora mrsantora@gmail.com [Avid-L2] <Avid-L2@yahoogroups.com> wrote:Jim,Tree Audio for $25,000? Sound craft's stuff is nice these days. Maybe also give the Allen&Heath ZED line a listen:

Nice simple mixers with good sound at good prices.
Or maybe the compact 8-channel Roots mixer from Tree Audio. Retro-modern. Under $25,000. :-)
