Bogdan is right.
(Although his sample file appears empty over here.)
If the caption house cannot provide an Avid compliant .txt file, ask for what they can provide,
and i'll do the conversion for you.
(You CANNOT convert a .son file, as that is bitmap based, so that would mean OCR and that is not only difficult, it most of the time fails as DVD subs are in a horrible resolution with only one level of anti-alias.)
Btw, EBU STL (note, there is also Spruce STL) has become a bastard format, and should be avoided like the plague.
(Same goes for .890 and .PAC IMHO.)

Subject: [Avid-L2] Japanese subtitle import into SubCap effect
Looking for advice on making open-captioned (burned-in) Japanese subtitles in Media Composer with the subcap effect. We need to make a 1920x1080 H.264 of a 90 minute program. Captions, Inc. has previously given us Spanish and Portuguese STL files that we imported into the subcap effect successfully. But they tell us STL does not support Asian languages. They've given us a .SON file we can use with DVDStudioPro to make a DVD, but Avid doesn't read .SON. I've seen a tutorial about manually typing in Japanese characters into the subcap effect (no way we can do that ourselves), but not about importing a Japanese .stl.Anyone figured out how to do this? Or suggest a way to use the .son file to create a movie file we can import into Avid with an alpha channel that would sync with our program? Or another way to caption the H264?Thanks in advance.Craig MikhitarianACM Productions, Ltd.
