Would that be similar to in word showing the formatting data, or whatever they call it to see their internal hidden characters that effect formatting of a document like a paragraph break etc....?
So the litmus test is to export an ALE and open it in Text Wrangler to see what is really there. Then do an export into Excel and export that and see what bad additional hidden stuff is in that and remove it.
After getting a successful round trip what happens if you then open the ale in Excel and make modifications and resave? Does it add back the unwanted invisible stuff?
