Re: [Avid-L2] BCC and it's function and relivance?

That's an interesting point about Fusion but the reality is most editors don't know it, me included.  That is not to say it isn't powerful but BCC has always been the basic swiss army knife for most of the shows I work on.  Sapphire is a common choice for it's glows and transitional effects but of the two I see more with BCC.  Obviously it's legacy bundling has a lot to do with that but it really is a powerful tool set.  I'm a little shocked at what my post super said that the new editors didn't really care much about having it.  Given the choice is nothing but Avid's internal effects or wait for the sapphire dongle to come available I find it a no brainer.  I didn't hear from the Post Sup that they suggested something else preferential.  So why wouldn't the editors jump at the chance to have an additional set of tools at their disposal.  From what I'm reading in the thread I don't think my pushing for BCC is a bad suggestion.

Also we are eligible for upgrade prices not new purchases.  I bet that is cheaper than fusion, please correct me if I'm wrong.

I haven't used it much but isn't avid connect just an avx plugin that takes care of all the round tripping to fusion for you?

Seems like opening a window to get access to primatte etc is a small price to pay.

In avid I always loved zBig for keying but I'm guessing that didn't make the leap to 64bit.

While you make a good point Mike, having to go outs to another application with the media round-tripping every time you want to do something sucks.
