I agree. The BCC chroma keyer alone is essential.

I've grown up with BCC on my Avids and have always viewed it as sort of the price of admissions effects pack. Given it's bundled history with Avid I find most editors are basically familiar with it. I'm curious what others feel about it these days. I'm asking because as we upgrade the Avids to Ver. 6.5.x at one of my regular shops I insisted on them springing for the upgrade from the BCC 5 ish licenses they had to get to the 64 bit compatible version for the upgraded Avids. I was surprised to hear from the Post Supervisor today that he had asked the current group of offline editors about the need for BCC and they were not concerned with having it or not. We have about 3 sapphire licenses with some standard effects for the series we d o so I can understand that being a factor but we have several more bays than the 3 sapphire licenses cover.I find the chroma key alone offers functionality I can't get with spectramatte. Also the sapphire package seems to offer chroma key enhancements but not an actual chroma key effect, please correct me if I'm wrong about that. I know the previous staff of offline folks used the BCC especially when they couldn't access a sapphire dongle so I'm curious why the current group isn't concerned with it. The post super agrees with me so they still plan on getting the BCC upgrades but I'm wondering if I'm out of touch on this. Now that you have to pay for BCC has the newer crowd of Avid editors given up or never even been exposed to BCC? I find that hard to believe but empirical data suggests I may be off the mark here. I wouldn't want to work with the basic Avid effects without some 3rd party BCC or other package. What do others see in this area? Is BCC becoming less valid to the Avid editors or is it just a price and lack of exposure thing? From a facilities stand point it's an advantage to have one go to effects package that most everyone has but perhaps those days are numbered.
