[Avid-L2] Re: 23.98 vs 24

I cut a feature entirely done in 24fps last year. Don't know about flicker but there were little issues in post to be honest. Worked on Avid 8.x (whichever it was then), using a Matrox Mini for monitoring onto a TV that could deal with 24fps (psf in my memory).

Since the composer worked on his Mac, so he was happy with a 24fps QuickTime.

Only annoying issue was screenings on Bluray/DVD: most players are supposed to handle 24fps properly but that's not true. Did some tests with the theaters where we screened and 24fps was jerky, very noticeable in pans and hand held. So we had to create 23.98fps DVD/BD - easy, but extra steps: export QT (not ref), plug drive to FCP station to turn the 24fps QT into 23.98fps with Cinematools, burn the DVD/BD using Compressor or Toast directly. At least we didn't run into sync issues but those extra steps could have created problems in the rush before each screening.
