Here's a tip to make this much less frustrating. Hold down they option key and click on the trim-mode button. This will put you into trim mode with the same trim roller selection you last had active. So if you've accidentally clicked in the wrong place, dropped out of trim mode and lost your trim selections, then this will get you back where you left off.

Two tips would be to lasso transitions that are multiple tracks deep and use keyboard combos to reposition the trim. You may claim "that's not intuitive and artful" but you can reposition the trim with JKL in context of the action on either side of them trim or frame by frame. The only way to come out of trim would be clicking on the timeline timecode track or "ruler"

Very very cool Steve and interesting to read! Lots of good material. I was struck by this quote:And I’m very frustrated with the trim tool in Avid. How you have to go fishing for an edit on every track before you can even begin to trim anything. I’ll be clicking away on every track and then, the ultimate insult, the whole thing comes undone because I clicked a millimeter off course. Ugh!I know that experience. I also tend to edit with several audio tracks running which I am guessing based on the interview is true of Fabienne as well.Anyone have a way around it beyond better hand-eye coordination? If not, is that a feature request? A key modifier that indicates you really are trying to click edit points to modify a trim and doesn't let you escape trim by accident? On Sat, May 16, 2015, at 11:58 PM, Steve Hullfish Steve@veralith.com [Avid-L2] wrote:Fabienne Beauville, ACE. She’s editing on Avid, but is not really a big fan. I wonder what it is that makes her think FCP’s trim tools are better than Avid’s? (not being facetious) We discussed this and more “artistic” questions here:(note that I posted another interview with Documentary editor Andy Grieve on PVC in the middle of last week and look to post an interview with recent Emmy winner, Jesse Averna, who edits “Sesame Street.”Feel free to ask me to stop posting these or to let me know that they are useful. I don’t want to spam the group. I DO want to provide valuable information.Steve
