Or you can compress the heck out of the 4K so it fits into the same bandwidth as 1080, and looks no better than 1080, but can be advertised as 4K so ignorant people will assume it's better.

Actually, you can do 1080 at 12 bit with Dolby HDR. That would fit into existing workflows rather easily.

Or you can do a minimum of 4 times the bandwidth of 1080 to deliver 4K.


Here's the bottom line. I can guarantee you that I could show a 4K and a 1080 HDR monitor side by side and the consumers will pick the HDR monitor every time.
