Interesting, I would think that having Dolby Digital AC3 audio as the requirement for ATSC HD OTA signals they still had a real lock on the audio market. I had heard there were other audio technologies considered but Dolby won out in the US. IIRC Japan went with something other than Dolby encoding for their HD transmission standard. Short term memory loss kicking in and I can't remember the standard they adopted.
