Hello Bouke,
I've set up some Synology boxes here and am very happy with them.
The first one I had set up ONLY for file sharing... and that has worked fine - nothing complicated - just works.
The second one I've started to use some of the other features that they include (something they call cloud station which is like dropbox, but the synology is the "cloud" so you don't have files leave your servers). Overall, I'm very impressed with how solid and feature packed these machines are.
We put in the 'rackstation' versions, because they will let you install 10 gig E cards for speed. And lots of drives.
I also have a FreeNAS box set up here - but the ease of use of the synology systems has really won me over.
Jeff

(But i need a NAS as i'm afraid it will be noixy, so moving it away would be
nice)
Any experiences with Qnap? Drobo? Something else?
