It's never bothered Apple to do away with a legacy item.
Avid should have moved beyond the 1-for-1 legacy model. There are plenty of A-D converters and embedders available. The same goes for analog video. I'd rather have a slimmer, less costly box that fits modern needs. If someone has to adapt, let them pay the extra cost of adapting. Curtis Nichols

it's more of a broadcast legacy kind of thing-many facilities were(and likely still are) wired for 4CH analog audio to accommodate the VTRs du jour: betaSP, Digi, HDCAM, DVCPRO(HD), DVCAM, etc.-the goal of every NLE manufacturer was to emulate a VTR from the I/O perspective for easy integration-more recent VTRs, like SONY HDCAM SR, still have the same number of analog audio channels:4, again for backwards compatibility reasons-so for 1 to 1 replacement, some of these legacy connections are still necessary-there was AES i/o on the NitrisDX in the form of DB25 breakout cables, so the designers did not overlap any coax AES connectionsDon't get me wrong, I don't agree with Avid's decision, but there are factors that probably influenced it.I mentioned in the past that SDI is obsolete and should be gone by now, replaced with HDMI. I guess the industry resists sudden changes...
