I bitched about it elsewhere, but whoever designed this I/O lives in a different decade than I do.
4 analog audio I/O. Four. 4. What are these for? Playout to Beta SP?
One pair of AES (2ch). Two (2) channels.
Sure. Stereo is the future, and so is Betacam SP. And of course, they needed to be smart when picking which in/out connectors on the back of the box, and surely, we all need Component Video in 2015, we just cannot live without it. In AND Out! How else are we going to capture C-format? And who needs 5.1 audio when you are playing out to U-Matic anyway? And these breakout cables that allow for multiple audio I/O (analog and digital) on DeckLink products, we cannot be bothered to use those, so we should all be glad that they eliminated proper 8ch audio I/O on this box, right? I'm also glad that they do feature optical out. Every studio I have ever seen had loads of Optical connections, and none of them use AES. Optical is the way of the future. And folks running 4K suites also need built-in mic-amps. They cannot afford to buy any mic amps. And they need to be able to plug these mics in in their noisy machine room, because thats where you place the talent to record voice overs. And RCA inputs are mandatory on pro equipment, everyone knows it. Ugh.
It looks like the product designers of the notorious Adrenaline box were hired by BlackMagic to build this box.
You would think they would have used their ACA Products and Solutions Council to double check which I/O connections professionals need in 2015 and the next few years.
