Re: [Avid-L2] [FR] Drag & Drop Editing +

My guess is that Avid's strategy - though not necessarily on-track with reality - is that they WANT people and EXPECT people to have Adobe CC, but that they would ALSO have Avid.

I certainly thing that Premiere and Avid will GET former FCP users. I have lots of anecdotal proof of that. Now, whether either actually GROWS from those users (when netted out from people abandoning either platform for something else) is definitely debatable. Premiere is in a better position to actually grow, because fewer people used it to start with. Avid USED to be king and will never be again, so the net loss is inevitable. But I can definitely say without a doubt that people are switching from FCP legacy to Avid and they are also certainly switching to Premiere (probably in even greater numbers). Are they actually GROWING from those switchers? Neither of us has the data, just supposition.

Yup.  I think this idea that Premiere or Avid are going to really grow based on FCP switchers is a pipe-dream.  Most folks I see have already decided, and Premiere and X were the winners (non long form broadcast land).  It will be interesting to watch how each of these players goes after the new editor group which might be the only way to really grow after cannibalizing each other' markets.  Avid has an interesting challenge in taking clients away from and holding off the Adobe CC package.
