After quite a bit of experimentation relating to getting XAVC-S media into Media Composer, I settled on the Avanti FFmpeg Front End GUI:
It is quite simple and straightforward (as FFmpeg GUIs go) -- but the necessity of transcoding media as a pre-process is entirely eliminated with Drastic's Media Reactor AMA plugin.
