I did a little googling and it seems that the only way to be able to export ProRes from Avid is to have some form of FCP installed. From what I read just installing QTPro 7 upgrade isn't enough. Is this still true. Is it possible to install something other than FCPX to gain this functionality? Something like compressor or motion, do they come with the necessary bits to export ProRes? I have always installed my FCP 7 on new systems to avoid issues but I'm asking for a friend.
