Re: [Avid-L2] Van

Good comments from John and Mark. Let me add that in addition to Sprinters and trailers, I see a lot of Ford Transits and some Nissan NV vans on jobs.

My friends with the older Transits are pretty happy with their flexibility, cost of operation, and reliability…and growing number of nice factory and 3rd-party storage & security options. The Ford Transit was recently restyled, and is now available in a few sizes, including one with room for 6-foot+ people to stand in.

Same with Nissan NVs. I don't see as many, but owners are happy so far. A few sizes available, including standable models (there's also a smaller NV model that I've seen).

Seems like grip trucks remain grip-truck sized. Around here there are Sprinters and Nissan 1-ton grip trucks available… I recall one being more dented than would have thought…but you know: grip rental. Maybe ask some grip friends how those trucks are holding up.

Besides grip rentals, everyone else's vehicles are getting smaller. And we can usually cram most everything including grip for corporate, doc, and some indie narrative work into a Sprinter or less. At least for stuff with one or two cameras, crew under 8 (ie- most of my work)

At least for the not-huge jobs I work on. And for those without enclosed & secure parking, most everything more expensive than a stand comes out of the truck at the end of each day.

HTH,

Jim
