Apart from an occasionally spelling error, i would NEVER do ANYTHING in the plugin, always switch back to dedicated subtitle software.
More than one reason: 1), it's faster, 2), it's probably the case you need the subs in another format, and exporting from Avid and importing involves a risk (ok, it ' should' not be a risk, but it is...)
3) I don't use Subcap other than a placeholder where i put my better looking rendered titles.
 
But again, it's 2015, we're talking not moviing / one size / typeface / spacing / whiite outlined text title generator.

It is what we do here. The caption window only works ok for english with no carriage return.
Try the & in the Master Caption, it still creates chaos.
