Note Avid's policy change described in the below article:
"With the December 2014 release of Media Composer | Software (v8.3), Avid introduced a new method for entitlement management for Media Composer licensing."
In past years, a dongle blasted for any given release (e.g. v5.3) was in general still usable with future builds in that "major" ("integer") release, i.e. v5.4, v.5.5 etc., regardless of the dates of those future releases.
But starting now, dongles will be encoded with the end date of the support contract under which they were blasted. So for example if your dongle is currently under support and sometime next year it supports v9.0, but your support expires before v9.1 ships, you're unable to run it v9.1.
