Mac OX X 10.10 Yosemite support is good to go today, November 21st, 2014 at 12:00 noon ET.

Software Versions:

  • Media Composer | Software v8.2
  • Media Composer | Software v8.2 w/Symphony Option

Note that updated builds of NewBlue Titler Pro v1 and v2 are required for Mac OSX 10.10 to avoid installation errors.

These NewBlue builds are available for download through Avid's Application Manager and on the Download Center (login and password required).

ReadMe: Please refer to the latest Media Composer | Software v8.0 Documentation for other requirements.

Couple of notes:

1.  While Media Composer has been qualified with Mac OSX 10.10 (Yosemite) we have observed reduced performance with operations like render, transcode, and playback on higher core count systems.  The dual 6 core Mac Pro tower (Westmere) and the 2013 Mac Pro with 12 cores are the most susceptible to this issue, particularly with higher bandwidth media.

2.  The performance issues do not affect Mac OSX v10.9.4 (Mavericks), 10.9.5 (Mavericks), or 10.8.5 (Mountain Lion) on the same CPU's noted above.  Avid is working with Apple to identify the root cause of the issue.

3.  Avid VideoRaid SR disk array is no longer supported with Mac OS X 10.10 ( Yosemite).  The special ATTO driver (from 2009) required for this disk array does not work with Yosemite.  Atto has confirmed this and has no plans to create a new special driver for Avid.
