I'm in brain dead mode today so please forgive the basic question. I know Boris Red will launch stand alone as well as through Avid Effect Mode. I never tried to run AvidFX standalone, I assume it works just like Boris Red does but I figure I should ask for clarity.
Reading your post it sounds like you launch AvidFX stand alone first then go into Avid with the Standalone AvidFX running. Then in Avid launch the interface from the effects window with the stand alone still running. After that you can quit the stand alone and not get the crash. I so rarely get AvidFX I'm not versed in the subtleties of the app/plugin.

The most recent version (posted days ago) of Red for Avid resolved this.
