Dom, they do make USB2 to gig-e adaptors.
Supposedly, at full-duplex, they're about twice as fast as a native 100-based T port.
Still, TB or USB3 to Gig-e is the way to go.

Just reporting that the Apple Thunderbolt to Ethernet adapter reliably plays back a couple of streams of DNxHD120 from our ISIS 5000. I was originally given a cheap USB-Ethernet adapter which dropped frames. Hope someone finds this useful.
