Yeah I hot swapped this morning no issue and it worked just like the two minute video I found online. That doesn't count the half hour with a pry tool and my carpenter friend to break the double sided tape holding the bats to the battery tray. Man that was amazingly tough to get those puppies out. I did find that the spare tray we had doesn't seem to want to push back all the way and I could only get the top two screws in but it's working. I don't know if the spare tray was from the same exact unit but it looked virtually the same as the one I pulled out. Perhaps there are slight chassis differnece for th 1500 Rack Mount units. This is an older model without LED readouts of data. I used 7.2 Ampere Hour Batts which is a little low but that's what Fry's had and they've worked on my home unit.
The most obvious different is the terminal blades for the connectors are narrower that the factory batteries so I had to pinch down the wire harness terminal connections to get as much surface contact as I could. That and electrical tape to keep them from rattling and things are much better. I even think this might have fixed my long battle with sync home glitching the Avid. Today is the first day with not sync hum glitches. Maybe two birds with one battery tray. I can only hope.
