I don't believe for a second Avid does not know it's competitive position. Numbers are frequently not as clear as one might wish or expect and being the biggest does not always translate as "best" in the customers mind. I'm fairly confident that Adobe's "installed base" is still magnitudes larger than anyone else. I've never seen anything to suggest otherwise. I was just looking at a recent survey of the "DSLR" market that indicates that Premier slams everyone else. Not a surprise.  And worldwide? Don't even go there.

Avid probably still owns the U.S. film and prime time broadcast industry. The real question is can they (a) hold it, and (b) expand it. Their twenty year record on expanding is not good and it seems unlikely that Premiere can compete for the major facilities market, but who knows. They are already "in" pretty much every facility in the world.

And don't write off FCP X. I'm seeing pushback out there. Some talented people are falling in love. Time is on Apple's side. It's very interesting.

Cheers,
