Roger, I'm an oldster newbie. If memory serves, I ran into the precompute error a few weeks ago (for the first time in seven years since switching to FCP) when I had several versions of an animated graphic from AE with an alpha channel. I cut the animation into the sequence on V3, then a few days later I wanted to mark a new in/out and cut it into a different place, while also double-checking that I was using the correct version, and then maybe cleaning up my bloated graphics bin. The fastest way to do those things would be to start by double-clicking on the clip in the sequence to load it into the Source Monitor. But it doesn't work.

Not a huge deal to work around that issue, but it seemed really odd that a QT with an alpha can't be loaded into the Source Monitor from the timeline by double-clicking. The whole precompute thing should have been fixed years ago, particularly if a Console command can fix it temporarily during any edit session.

I also have a "muscle-memory" problem with titles in the timeline; I double-click on them several times a day. But that's pilot error. ;)

If all you want to do is see/play them, use the Media Tool in Frame View. The precomputes will play.

Before you use it, you must make precomputes visible in your bin. To see your precomputes
you need to select the BIN menu, and choose SET BIN DISPLAY.  Place a check mark beside
PRECOMPUTES to make them visible.  You may need to toggle this selection ON and OFF
repeatedly to update the precomputes you see in your bin. Precomputes travel with their
sequences so the precomputes you see are those attached to any sequences in the bin.

Now run Subsys monpane debug and you will be able to load the precomputes into your

video mixdown of any portions of your timeline made from precomputes.

Isn't it a standard computer UI to be able to shift-click to select a large group (of anything)? Sometimes click & drag (lasso) is awkward, so shift-click should be an option.
Coming back to Media Composer from FCP after seven years, I was disappointed that the handling of stills (in Pan & Zoom) has not been improved upon. Message to Avid: Really? And I had to laugh the first time I got the familiar error message about precomputes not loading in the Source Monitor. Really?!!!!!
