I disagree about the time it takes to name the clips. I'm on a number of series that are still primarily tape based so the src clip names are more accurate to at least the tape the shot came from. From there I add a suffix to break up the groups with similar color correction needs. Granted if we were all file based it would be more of a challenge but the 45 minutes to an hour I spend adding suffixes is more than made up when I color correct with confidence using src clip name. I wouldn't expect the offline editors or AEs to prename the clips in a manner conducive to my color correction needs. At the final show I merge the corrections from all the previous shows and I average 25 to 35% of the wrap up show is pre color corrected. I keep tight reins on my media management and clip renaming and it pays off in the long run. At this point I almost never assume that the clip names are indicative of my color correction needs coming from offline. This is why I'd like Avid to add the choice of a custom column for the relational color correction. This way I could go through the bin in script mode and add unique color identifiers to each clip regardless of if it's tape or file based. This would help reclaim some of the efficiency lost in CC when file based clips have seemingly arbitrary clip names. Also when I take the time to rename the clips I also get a feel for the footage which helps me perceive of potential CC problems before I get into the show. This works for me but to each his own.

to do it. It's not cost effective for me to spend the time naming clips
in finishing just to save time when I CC. I did a show lat week where
the editor actually had named her clips and did a very good job of it.
She was amazed at how fast I was able to do my first pass of color
correction. It was just like the old days.
It's actually not awful applying the CC shot by shot in source segment.
What IS awful is trying to remember which bucket goes with which scene.
I will take this opportunity to repeat for the I don't know how manyeth
time my feature request for the CC buckets to take on a thumbnail of the
frame Symphony was parked on when the bucket was saved. If Facebook can
stick my face on everything I say, seems like avid should be able to
grab a thumbnail.
One other request... I lost back some of the time I gained on the show
I did last week because of the color corrector defaulting to "clip name"
when I was making a second pass. I know that's what it does but for the
last few years I've spent almost all my time in source segment. I
forgot a few times and wound up making unwanted adjustments all over the
timeline. How hard would it me to give us the ability to lock the mode.
