Wondering what everyone is doing about re-certifications these days.
Has anybody on the west coast (pacific time) taken any of the ASCR virtual re-cert classes?
Have any of them been during 'normal' hours?
Have they improved since the "Alex" days? (remember those?)
I was enrolled in my editing re-cert for August then the class was canceled.
That was the last classroom re-cert offered in Los Angeles.
Now that they've been running the virtual re-certs for a year now, it looks like they just won't be offering the classroom re-certs in LA.
Does anybody really re-certify anymore?
How necessary is it these days?
The reason I ask is I'm having difficulty with the various times the virtual re-certs are being offered as well as not being a fan of the virtual idea. Even at $500.
The only WG443 class offered is actually taught from Germany.
I was careful not to register for the German language class, never thinking the only other class offered (that wasn't in Burlington) would be on Central European Time (CET) which is UTC+1:00 or 1:00am PDT until 7:00am. Who knew? since they carefully do not note the time zone on the schedule or class details. Who would need these details while registering or in email correspondence anyway? At least until you ask because something in your head says 'better check that' while setting up your Outlook calendar.
While I work until 3am as it is, this just seems a bit harsh to expect LA ACSR's to accommodate this kind of schedule. This class would only keep me up half the night. The others would force me up in the wee hours of the morning, which isn't as bad. I mean, 8:00am PDT isn't harsh for most.
That's just one of the reasons why I'm wondering about his whole re-cert thing. It brings to mind the arguments of re-certifications being necessary to maintain your ACSR status when nothing has changed in the gear or the software.
The other offerings like CS410 & UN442 are at least EST.
Yeah, I'm pretty sure about that, but then again, the day's not over yet.
