You may be interested in this follow-up to the timecode problems I had with 720p/23.98 AVCHD footage. Now I don't believe it has anything to do with a corrupt project file.
As I noted earlier, when I AMA-ed the AVCHD clips into a new Avid project, the timecode was good. So I started working in that project to transcode them to DNxHD. But, before transcoding, when I modified the clips to add a Tape Name -- which I do with other AMA files to help in later Re-linking and to keep media organized -- I noticed that the timecode went wacky again. Same issue with the each frame count incrementing by 2 frames, then 3 frames, then 2 frames, etc. A 3:12 (84 frame) clip suddenly showed a duration of 8:16. (But plays at a normal rate.)
It appears by adding a Tape Name to the clip, Avid thinks the file must have been captured from a videotape, which in 720p would have been recorded with 60 fields and 2:3 pulldown. So adding a Tape Name changes the way timecode counts the frames -- although I can't quite figure out the logic to it as it is only counting about 10 frames per second. It doesn't change anything else -- still reads as 23.98fps etc.
