Avid is providing support to its customers?!? How is that silly at all?

Is it just me that thinks it's silly for Avid to keep using resources updating software that's two major versions old? Am I reading this right?
I mean, I know some people would howl bloody murder at them stopping this practice, but wouldn't it be a better use of resources to focus on new developments and software? Does Adobe do this? I know Apple does not. Just a thought.
