RE: [Avid-L2] Tape capture with Proxies

Price in UK is £1200 for the first input and then £400 for each one after I think.

The Sales guy sent me a download.

The demo has a watermark but otherwise works pretty painlessly . So I reckon 5K I could do 4 streams.

I can't find a demo download...

But, i can test, got 5 BM inputs on my machine, so if you like, send me the demo...

(Any idea about price already?)

I did find this .. www.metus.com

This captures up to 4 streams from a Blackmagic card and generates h264 proxies at the same time as HIrez

Anyone used it?

I have got it running and it does work, I can’t test all 4 inputs without a quad card though..

Nigel

I have just asked one of our support guys to set up a test with four OP-ATOM DNx captures to proxy with burnins as you require on a Z820 to see how long it takes.

I also did what  you need in MediaComposer with the Timecode effect, which you can do, but the renders are horrendous and it requires human interaction and a copy of Media Composer (or four) to do it in parallel.

this is precisely the sort of thing we built ContentAgent for.

If you capt ure the primary files to a folder CA is watching it will do the rest for you automatically. it will even deliver the proxies to where you want them at the end.

It’s really whether we can keep up with the capturing… I can capture 4 streams easily but transcoding at 4 times realtime is harder esp with burn ins and also we’d have to work out how to translate the reel no etc into a burn in. So it might be I need more PC’s to transcode than capture which seems wrong!
