Thanks to everyone for their help.
Seems to me that now all we have are samples I dont get the idea of
intra sample peaks but I have read all I need to know that they come
from somewhere and as always its my job to fix them.
Anyway after much research, (hour or so of google and asking here) Ive
decided go go with Nugen LM-Correct
the decision came down to four things;
- several people I respect recommended it
- its relatively inexpensive
- there's a standalone version with means no messing with Protools or
anything else
- easy operation
The last sold me, simply load the audio, select a delivery profile,
click analyse - out of spec values are in orange, then click correct. Done.
It creates a new file right next to the source file with the delivery
profile name appended.
Costs $399
and you get the standalone and a Avid/protools plugin for the one price.
Its been an interesting day - I didnt realise there were so many new
loudness specs out there, I've been mixing to PPMs for a very long time
with no problems so it came as a bit of a surprise to come across new
definitions of 'peak', I remember when peak meant peak but there you go
maybe it wasnt precise enough, guess this is as true as ever;

best regards
Mike
