I'm not looking forward to trading-in my ol' 17" MBP, either.
But, my new 27" Apple display will help ease things when the time comes (if Apple ever releases a new MBP!).
About performance: I'm not pushing MC very hard these days (less editing, more giving training); but the RAM gave it its old zip back (I agree MC 7 is RAM hungry). I might have to take Steve's advice and install a SSD next!
