I think the reason is Interplay.

I don't understand how this benefits anyone. Using some sort of unique ID file that gets created next to the AMA file or volume (making your media searchable like using spotlight) seems to makes more sense. That way you can move your media wherever the hell you want and avid would always be able to find it again. You'd also be able to track and differentiate media with the same filenames (DSLRs, GoPros) without having to rename them. I'd bet that it would also solve all AMA relinking issues while using the traditional avid relink tool.
Or at least something that actually works more than 50% of the time...

Hi Mark,Good tip -- though disheartening to hear that you have to trash them so frequently.Am I correct that you then have to *manually* relink using the Right-Click > Relink to AMA File(s) method?Or do the databases automatically rebuild as they do in the Avid MediaFiles folder? My guess is no.Cheers,BOn Jun 9, 2014, at 11:51 AM, "Mark Spano cutandcover@gmail.com [Avid-L2]" <Avid-L2@yahoogroups.com> wrote:Worth noting that turning off AMA Management only turns it off temporarily, and it eventually turns back on (and subsequently corrupts itself again). I keep that folder path handy in my shortcuts and just click and delete, often.

In fact, it's possible to turn off managed AMA completely, reverting to pre MC 7 style management, using the console. It's been stated by Avid that managed AMA provides little benefit except in certain workflows that involve Interplay, and may improve performance to disable it.

Site: http://ContactBen.comHi Gang,I'm hoping to obtain the file path on a PCto the AMA Databases, which Avid places inside a folder named "AMA Metadata Folders."Based on the Mac path (below), I could make an educated guess, but if anyone can verifythe path on a PC, that would be über helpful! The file path on a Mac is:Users >Shared >AvidMediaComposer >AMA Management >AMA Metadata Folders. And on a related note:Has anyone trashed these and had success with relinking AMA media?Do they rebuild like we're used to in the Avid MediaFiles folder (I'm asking before I try it)? Thanks in advance L2ers,B----Benjamin Hershleder
