I'm just starting a new doc and hoped to use AMA to review footage with the director before transcoding for editing. Main camera is a Sony F55, recording XAVC 4K.
Here's my Mac specs:
Mac Pro mid-2010 (MacPro5,1)2x2.66 GHz 6-core Intel XeonRAM: 12 GB 1333 MHz DDR3 ECCATI Radeon HD 5770 1024 MBOSX 10.9.2
Footage is on a 4TB 7200 rpm HDD on a dock hooked up via eSata -- should be getting 100~140 MB/s
XAVC 4K is around 240 Mbps, (~30 MB/s). Plays nice and smooth in VLC, but both audio and video have tons of stutter using AMA in MC 7.0.x at anything beyond yellow/green quality.
Am I crazy to think this should be working better? This is a top-of-the-line last-generation system -- it benchmarks about the same as an 8-core trashcan. Anyone getting better performance with a similar setup?
It looks like my RAM might be a little low (16 GB+ seems to be Avid's recommendation for 4K frameflex workflows). Is that the likely culprit?

Thanks for any insights,
